Major General Aziz Weysi Bani is the commanding general of the Zerevani Peshmerga – the elite infantry units in the Iraqi Kurdish military.
Under his leadership, the 56,000-strong force has achieved major victories against Islamic State, including the pivotal liberation of Mosul Dam and the Sinjar offensive.
He was appointed to the highest position of command by President Barzani in 2010.
